When disaster strikes, how will we eat? When trucks no longer ship our food and money is worthless, who will survive? Those who produce there own food will be able to feed themselves and those who don't will have to forage.

Community Supported Agriculture is one way of producing food that is sustainable, local, and strengthens the community. How a CSA works is that instead of a farm getting loans during the planting season and payoffs at the harvest, they get their support from community members. A member pays for a share of the farm and in return gets a box of produce each week. This takes the risk off of the farmer and encourages the community to ensure that the farm is successful. It is also common that some or all of your share at a CSA can be done in work. This is yet another way of building community involvement and keeping the cost down.

Planting native plants is yet another step towards local food security. First you must find out what grows naturally in your area. Then, start planting. Everywhere. Fruits, Berries, and vegetables will start filling the parks and sides of highways. This food can then be harvested by anybody who needs it.
